AAL 128 - 1/2/3 - 20: Hindi I - Beginner's First-Year Hindi


COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is meant for students with no or very little Hindi background. The students will be introduced to the Hindi script and to aspects of Hindi grammar. Social and cultural information will be discussed along-side.

PREREQUISITES: None

TEACHING METHOD: Textbook, word games, in-class materials.

EVALUATION METHOD: Assessment is based on weekly (pop) quizzes, attendance, classroom participation, home assignments, and 3 mid-terms, No final exam.

128 - 1/2/3 - 21: Hindi I: Accelerated First-Year Hindi


COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is meant for students with some Hindi background. The students are expected to be able to speak and understand basic Hindi (as in Hindi movies), but they are not expected to be able to read or write in Hindi. They will systematically be introduced to the Hindi script and to aspects of Hindi grammar. Social and cultural information will be discussed along-side.

PREREQUISITES: Some speaking skills in Hindi, placement by instructor

TEACHING METHOD: Textbook, word-games, in-class materials

EVALUATION METHOD: Assessment is based on weekly (pop) quizzes, attendance, classroom participation, home assignments, and 3 mid-term exams. No final exam.

129 - 1/2/3 - 20: Hindi II - Second-Year Hindi


COURSE DESCRIPTION: Hindi II will be split between the ex-accelerated and the ex-beginner students from Hindi I.

The ex-accelerated students will be meeting once a week (TBA) to watch Hindi movies. They will then be assigned written tasks based on what they watched.

The ex-beginner students will be watching 3 out of the scheduled 9-10 movies. They will primarily be working on increasing their grammar skills, vocabulary and speaking abilities.

PREREQUISITES: 128-3 (first-year sequence), placement, or permission of the instructor.

TEACHING METHOD: Textbook, extra materials, word-games.

EVALUATION METHOD: Assessment is based on weekly (pop) quizzes, attendance, class participation, home assignments, and 3 mid-term exams. No final exam.
